Active Release Technique
"ART" or "Active Release Technique" is a technique for soft tissue treatment that is based on movement. This approach addresses muscle, tendon, ligament and nervous problems. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems and epicondylitis are just some of the many conditions that can be effectively treated with ART. These conditions all have one thing in common: they are often the result of overused muscles. Overuse of the muscle may be due to trauma, repeated microlesions, or hypoxia.
Overuse muscle can cause your body to produce dense scar tissue from the affected area. This scar tissue binds and attaches tissues that should be able to move freely. When scar tissue builds up, the muscles become less effective, the increased tension on the tendons can cause tendinitis and the nerves can be trapped. This can result in reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. ART treatments include over 500 protocols to help tissues regain function.
The ART approach can be used by your chiropractors in combination with other types of care to optimize your results.
ART can also complement your massage therapy, since they are different and one does not replace the other.
